Rare wristwatch with chronograph function, Ref. S105.003-63, circa 1963 watch case: stainless steel, screw-down caseback, tachymeter bezel, diameter approx. 40 mm; movement: manual-winding, lever escapement, number 27320423, Caliber 321, Breguet balance spring, screw-down balance, chronograph function via column wheel, soft iron magnetic shielding, 17 jewels dial: Black, hour markers, 3 sub-dials for small seconds, 30-minute, and 12-hour counters accessories: Watch band with stainless steel folding clasp (1035/6, 1/68), Omega Certificate of Authenticity dated 12/2022, Omega Service Warranty Card dated 12/2019, service case, stainless steel band components, new case with outer box In 1965, in the search for a chronograph suitable as standard equipment for NASA astronauts, various watches—including the Omega 105.003—were subjected to 11 extreme stress tests under the direction of NASA engineer James H. Ragan. The Omega was the only one to pass the test series and was designated “Flight Qualified for all Manned Space Missions.” Already in use during the Gemini missions, Ed White wore two Omega 105.003-63 watches on his wrist during the first “EVA” (Extra-Vehicular Activity) by a U.S. astronaut. The certificate of authenticity, accompanied by Omega, confirms the originality of all components and notes that the watch was fitted with an original and correct service movement from 1968 as part of a service. The watch features the rare dial without the “T T” (tritium) marking, which is popular among collectors. Signs of wear and pressure marks typical of its age.
