North Somerset Yeomanry Cavalry, Officer’s Helmet. A good and scarce Albert pattern example, circa 1847-1871, with a polished nickel silver shell with a large standard pattern ornate gilt frontal plate, with a Victorian crown surmounting a rococo shield bearing a silver or white metal hobnailed star with a central gilt device of a garter strap, inscribed, ’North Somerset Yeomanry’, centred with a ‘VR’ cypher, with a gilt ornate plume holder, rosettes, peak and edge trimming and a leather backed chin chain, with its correct pattern white horse hair plume, lacking the rosette from the plume top, with a brown leather lining interior and leather skiver to the front peak, good service worn condition and scarce £800-£1,000.
