The lamp in question can be reliably linked to Italy in the late 19th century and the very first years of the 20th, in the so-called Umbertine period (1878–1900), fully embedded in the broader eclectic European mood. In these decades domestic lighting based on mineral oil (petroleum/kerosene) was still a widespread solution, especially in bourgeois and rural homes, before the definitive rise of electric lighting. Lamps were no longer mere functional objects but pieces of furnishing, often inspired by historicist repertoires: naturalism, simplified Rococo taste, Baroque and Neo-Renaissance revivals. The transparent glass reservoir features: · highlighted relief decorations obtained by molding · a central structural band, intended to house the mounting bracket This type of pressed glass is typical of late 19th-century serial production, often manufactured in glassworks in Northern Italy or the Central European area (Bohemia, Austria), then assembled locally.
