Nightstand (2) - Mahogany - Pair of Italian nightstands

Pair of nightstands in mahogany, Italy, 1950s–'70s. Two drawers, molded frames, tapered legs. 73 × 48 × 34 cm Pair of bedroom nightstands in mahogany, Italian postwar production, circa 1950–1970. Serial furniture, unsigned, in a simplified classical style (sometimes defined as “transitional”): the type of nightstand that accompanied complete bedrooms of the era, with coordinated bed and dresser. The style Each piece has the rectangular top, slightly overhanging, with a molded edge. Under the top, two full-width drawers. The fronts are mirrored: a recessed panel framed by a molded lip, still in mahogany, which draws a clean rectangle around each drawer. The same molding runs along the edge of the top. It is not inlay of different woods or colored veneers: it’s a frame in the same wood, raised, that lightens the front and gives the piece its traditional line. There are two keys across four. The two keys open all four drawers: in these standard pieces the lock is usually the same for the two drawers of each nightstand, so one key per piece is enough for both. The drawer slides are perfect. The four legs are straight, slightly tapered downward, without turning and without brass caps. Dimensions of each nightstand: height 73 cm, width 48 cm, depth 34 cm. The two pieces form a coordinated pair. Condition as used, stated honestly. Solid structure, legs intact, fronts without visible breakages. Original or old finish, satin, small marks and wear consistent with age, especially on the tops. Not restored. They are sold as-is, as shown in the photographs. The drawer slides are perfect.
