NICOLAS — LIST OF GREAT WINES 1973 — PAINTINGS BY RAYMOND GU - Lot 207

NICOLAS — LIST OF GREAT WINES 1973 — PAINTINGS BY RAYMOND GUERRIER [NICOLAS]. List of Great Wines 1973. Paintings by Guerrier. Charenton-le-Pont, Établissements Nicolas; Montrouge, Draeger Frères, 1973. Quarto, paperback, fully illustrated color cover based on a painting by Raymond Guerrier (1920–2002). 31 pages, typography and layout by Jean [Alfred] Latour. The BnF catalogs this publication under the title *List of Fine Wines, 1973 / Paintings by Guerrier*. A very beautiful promotional publication by the Nicolas company, alternating the list of grands crus and vintages sold by the company with Guerrier’s compositions, featuring highly stylized architectural forms and shades of ochre, yellow, black, and white. The illustration includes the large cover composition and several color reproductions, including three double-page spreads. Specialized bibliographies describe the edition as containing eight compositions, including the cover. This is a particularly interesting edition in the history of Nicolas catalogs: it is the last of the major luxury advertising catalogs in the historic series, which began before the war and was illustrated over the years by numerous modern artists. The series ceased in this format after this 1973 edition. The copy is in good overall condition based on the photographs; there are slight signs of wear on the cover, the interior is fresh, and the color reproductions are well preserved.
