Born in 1958 in Ben Tre, an authentic village nestled in the heart of the Mekong Delta, Nguyen Robert is a Franco-Vietnamese artist whose work is characterized by a singular fusion of Asian traditions and Western artistic influences. From a young age, he has been fascinated by the rural architecture of his environment, the lines of traditional houses, the volumes of floating markets, and the shadows cast by water palms — all elements that will become the foundation of his visual language. Having always lived in his native region, Nguyen Robert over the decades developed a deeply contemporary, modern, and decidedly architectural style. His paintings explore structures, lines, urban rhythms, and geometric abstraction, while maintaining a poetic sensitivity inherent to Vietnamese culture. His Franco-Vietnamese heritage enriches his approach: he borrows from the West the rigour of modern compositions and the boldness of contrasts, while his Vietnamese soul infuses softness, spirituality, and fluidity into his works. The result is a pictorial universe where modernity meets timelessness, where geometry dialogues with light, creating paintings of great visual power. Known for his ability to turn everyday life into abstract landscapes, Nguyen Robert is today regarded as one of the distinctive voices of contemporary delta Mekong painting. He continues his work in his Ben Tre studio, surrounded by the landscapes that shaped his identity, and keeps exhibiting in several galleries in Asia and Europe, captivating collectors and art lovers seeking profoundly modern, structured, and vibrant works.
