ETHERLANDS EAST INDIES. British Sumatra. Gilt Copper 2 Kepings, AH 1219/1804. Birmingham (Soho) Mint. NGC PROOF-62. KM-267; Prid-5; Sch-964. Thin Planchet variety. A gorgeous near-Choice example of this RARE proof, presenting a spectacular exhibition of early Soho Mint precision. Powerful golden reflectivity emits from the deeply mirrored fields, while the well-struck design elements retain satisfying, razor-sharp crispness. The original gilding remains almost entirely intact, with just a few trivial flecks missing from the highest points of the reliefs. An unusual and highly elusive offering, this beautiful specimen is certain to intrigue the advanced colonial specialist. Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500.
