Netherlands - Dutch Military Gala Fourragère / Uniform...

Antique Dutch Military Gala Fourragère / Uniform Dress Cord with 2 Tassels – Pre-WWII / Captain Rank Offered for sale is a beautiful, authentic, and rare pre-WWII Dutch military ceremonial fourragère (gold uniform dress cord) featuring two large, heavily fringed tassels. Based on the historical design with two tassels, this specific configuration was worn by an officer holding the rank of Captain (Kapitein) on their formal gala or dress uniform. Characteristics & Craftsmanship: • Material: Crafted from high-quality, authentic gold bullion thread (genuine gold-plated wire wrapped tightly around a structural textile core). The cord has a characteristically rigid and metallic feel, confirming its early, period-correct manufacture. This is a true historical piece and not a modern synthetic or plastic replica. • Length: Approximately 160 cm (full length). • Details: Complete with its original braided sliding knots (schuifpassanten) and an attachment loop for securing to the uniform shoulder button. The upper bulbs of the tassels show the iconic, finely ribbed wire-wrapping typical of early 20th-century artisanal craftsmanship. • Condition: In very good, original antique condition with a beautiful, rich historical patina. The metallic thread has aged evenly and retains excellent structural integrity, without significant breaks or disruptive green oxidation (verdigris). A premium, investment-grade addition for any serious collector of Dutch militaria or European pre-war uniforms.
