Natural ruby – Buddha with Naga snake – hand-carved...

This exceptional carving from natural ruby shows a meditating Buddha figure protectively surrounded by the fanned hood of a multi-headed Naga serpent. The motif is closely connected with Buddhist tradition and evokes Mucalinda, the serpent king who is said to have protected Buddha during his meditation from a storm. The ruby displays strong pink, magenta, and purple tones with occasional greenish mineral inclusions. Its translucence is particularly impressive: under backlighting, thinner areas glow intensely red to pink, making the varying material thickness of the carving visible. The finely crafted details of the Naga hood, the seated figure, and the multi-tiered base give the piece a strong three-dimensional effect. Small natural inclusions and color variations emphasize the ruby’s unique character. In traditional crystal healing, ruby is associated with life force, courage, and inner strength. Together with the Buddha and Naga motif, this creates a symbol-rich combination of protection, calm, and spiritual power. An expressive collector’s piece that combines the distinctive color effect of the natural ruby with a traditional Buddhist representation.
