Natural ruby bracelet in its cyanite matrix

This bracelet is made of round beads featuring a natural mix of red-pink, blue and olive green tones, the characteristic combination of ruby embedded in a cyanite matrix, sometimes associated with inclusions of fuchsite. Each bead is unique; none reproduces exactly the patterns of its neighbor. On the lithotherapy front, this association is sought for the balance it would evoke between the energy of ruby, linked to vitality and passion, and that of cyanite, reputed to promote mental clarity and communication. The ruby-cyanite comes primarily from Tanzanian deposits where red corundum forms in contact with metamorphic rocks rich in cyanite, giving rise to this particularly two-tone matrix. The bright pink-red fluorescence under UV light is explained by the presence of chromium in the ruby’s structure: it is this same trace of chromium that gives the corundum its red color and that, under ultraviolet light, causes this characteristic luminescence. The surrounding cyanite, by contrast, remains dark or hardly reacts, which enhances the contrast and makes it easier to distinguish the minerals within a single bead.
