Set of 15 volumes from the prestigious Bibliothèque de la Pléiade collection (Gallimard / NRF Editions). Magnificent opportunity for a keen reader, student, or collector to acquire a substantial lot featuring milestones of French and international literature in their famous full-leather publisher bindings with gilt backs, printed on Bible paper. The lot includes the complete Marcel Proust trilogy as well as significant scholarly editions from the period: • Marcel Proust - In Search of Lost Time: Volumes I (100th volume of the collection, 1954), II (1954) and III (1954) – Complete series. • Stendhal - Novels and Short Stories, Volume I (1952). • Gérard de Nerval - Works, Vols. I (1956) and II (1956). • Choderlos de Laclos - Complete Works (1951). • Giacomo Casanova - Memoirs, Vols. I (1958) and II (1959). • Roger Martin du Gard - Complete Works, Vols. I (1955) and II (1955). • André Gide - Journal (1939-1949) and Memories (1954). • Henry de Montherlant - Theatre (1955). • J.W. von Goethe - Complete Theatre (Historical Edition published under the Occupation, May 1942, with introduction by André Gide). • Anthology - Novelists of the 18th Century, Volume II (1965). Overall condition: mixed condition / reading condition. The interiors and the text blocks are fresh on Bible paper, very pleasant to read. The leather bindings and spines, however, show pronounced signs of use and aging (caps sometimes rubbed or partially missing, light scuffing). Note: old traces of adhesive tape (scotch) for reinforcement are visible on a few bindings (Laclos, Martin du Gard, Gide). The Gide volume has become detached from its leather cover (inner hinge open, text block detached). Some copies are sold without the rhodoid protective sleeve or the rigid box.
