MUGHAL DAGGER WITH GILT HILT AND DECORATED SCABBARD

Ca. AD 1700 - 1800 A steel dagger with a curved, single-edged blade tapering to a pointed tip, with a pronounced medial ridge and gold-damascened floral ornament near the forte. The gilt metal hilt has a slender grip joining a broad, cusped guard to a T-shaped pommel. The accompanying scabbard is embellished with gilt arabesques, raised ornamental fittings and beaded borders. Its tapering terminal is encircled by closely spaced bands of geometric ornament and surmounted by a curved finial. Size: 450mm x 60mm; Weight: 485g Provenance: Private London collection; Ex.
