The front and reverse decorated with chinoiserie motifs in black lacquer and mother-of-pearl, the front accented by 2 small coloured gemstone cabochons. The case decorated with black enamel and mother-of-pearl inlays, set with probably Mediterranean coral cabochons and small rose-cut diamonds in millegrain settings. The push-button framed with red enamel or lacquer. The interior fitted with a mirror, 2 compartments with lids and a lipstick holder. Signed Cartier Paris Londres New York. Numbered 5685, 1595 and 1310. French gold hallmark for decorated cases and English import hallmarks (London), with maker's mark JC for Jacques Cartier. Illegible maker's mark in a lozenge.
