This piece, in its prized Solitaire version, recounts the first leg of the epic journey of Phileas Fogg, from London to Bombay via the Suez Canal. Design of High Craftsmanship: Both the barrel and the cap are crafted with masterful technique: a deep guilloché pattern that emulates the waves of the ocean, coated with a dazzling translucent blue lacquer. The details are finished in platinum plaqué, highlighting the clip decorated with a spade from a deck in black enamel (symbol of the famous wager at the Reform Club). Thematic Engravings: The cap is a narrative canvas. It features a carved cartouche with a majestic steamship. At the top, beneath Montblanc's iconic white star emblem, the inscriptions "18 DAYS" (time of the first leg) and "80" (total days of the challenge) can be seen. State of conservation (Expert Review): Bidders are kindly asked to examine the photo gallery carefully to verify the piece's almost pristine condition: Body and Cap: The blue lacquer and the guilloché pattern are in perfect condition, maintaining all their shine and depth without dents or visible scratches. Fittings: The platinum plaqué details (clip, bands and cone) retain their original mirror polish, with no wear. Writing: Smooth and secure closing mechanism.
