Moldavite is a natural tektite, formed about 15 million years ago during a meteorite impact in what is now Bavaria. The shockwave propelled molten material which, upon falling back, solidified into natural green glass, found mainly along the Vltava (Moldau) river in Bohemia, hence its name. The ankh, Egyptian symbol of eternal life, finds a special echo in moldavite: a stone of transformation par excellence.
