More info about Chinese carpets: China has a long and outstanding carpet tradition. The art of carpet making here dates back to the 15th century. The designs and patterns were originally inspired by Chinese porcelain, landscapes, majestic dragons, and other religious symbols. The patterns in Chinese carpets are generally cut in relief, giving them the characteristic three-dimensional appearance they are famous for. Chinese carpets consist of soft wool and have a rather thick and dense pile. They are very strong and robust, yet soft and pleasant to walk on. There are also more exclusive silk carpets in China, woven entirely from silk. These rugs are extremely rare on the market and sometimes even contain elements made from pure gold threads. Chinese silk carpets have a very high knot density and are largely inspired by patterns from ancient Persian rug art.
