Technic: Etching Artist: Hiroto NORIKANE 乗兼広人 (b 1949) Title: "Miyajima 4 (Night Lantern) 宮島 常夜燈" Limited 34/500, in 2008 Japan Hand signed and numbered by the artist with title and red artist seal. A landscape of a majestic Torii gate standing in the sea and lantern. Miyajima is an island of faith in the Seto Inland Sea, Japan. Itsukushima Shrine in Miyajima, one of Japan's most representative architectural works, is registered as a World Heritage Site in 1996 as a masterpiece that conveys Japan's worship of nature and spiritual culture, with its unique landscape that combines the shrine building and torii gate built on the sea with the primeval forest in the background. This quiet and solemn landscape is expressed with a slightly warm and gentle tone. The composition’s skilful use of negative space quietly conveys the pure, serene atmosphere of Miyajima. Conditions: Excellent conditions, slight defect on the margin. Dimensions: Paper size: 215 x 262 mm Image size: 126 x 172 mm Hiroto Norikane employs etching and aquatint techniques to craft intricately detailed prints. His works are characterized by subdued colors, such as black and white, shades of brown, or a minimalist palette of one or two colors. His artistry reflects the tranquility of the Japanese landscape. Norikane says that like printmaking, travel is an important part of his life. He creates works that express the emotions he encounters on his aimless travels. Norikane has attempted printmaking with a wide range of themes, including the "Blowfish Series" "Cat Series" "Fish Series" "Folk House Series" and "Tree Series". In 2024, he had been working on printmaking for 55 years. He says that he is finally beginning to see his own way, and printmaking, like a journey, has no end. Born: 1949.
