Todas las subastas / Etnográfica / Mexican Rainbow Obsidian - Contemporary abstract...
A Sculptural Masterpiece in Rainbow Obsidian with Plays of Light and Dynamic Volumes — This extraordinary sculpture has been masterfully crafted in natural rainbow obsidian, a volcanic glass formed by the rapid cooling of silicic lavas. The artwork, originating from Mexico, embodies a modern interpretation of lithic matter, transforming it into an abstract form that evokes fluidity and dynamism. The piece stands out for its harmonious lines and mirror-polished surfaces, which capture and reflect light in a spectacular way. The shape is characterized by curved volumes and carefully designed internal openings, creating a sophisticated play of solids and voids. This three-dimensional design allows the sculpture to drastically alter its visual appearance depending on the viewing angle, offering new perspectives and details with every rotation. The coloration of obsidian is revealed sublimely through the artisanal workmanship: the deep, reflective black of the surface is interrupted by iridescent hues—browns, purples, and coppery tones—that emerge under particular lighting conditions typical of “rainbow” obsidian. This iridescence, caused by microscopic inclusions or elongated air bubbles, adds a dimension of mystery and intrinsic beauty to the mineral. The Mexican origin of this type of obsidian is known for its quality and rich chromaticity. The sculptural intervention highlights the natural characteristics of the material, transforming a simple mineral into a modern work of art. The base is integrated, ensuring stability and completing the refined aesthetics of the piece. In terms of preservation, the work is presented in excellent condition, as evidenced by the images, with no signs of alterations or damage. The meticulous polishing guarantees its luster and enhances the subtle iridescences, making it a prized exemplar for any collection. This sculpture is not merely a decorative piece but a dialogue between geological nature and human art. Its imposing presence and ability to interact with light make it an ideal focal point for modern interiors, high-end mineral collections, or as a refined design object in a contemporary cabinet of curiosities. It represents a perfect fusion between the mineral’s robustness and the elegance of form."}{}{
