Messing kolenkit – klassiek helmmodel met houten...

Brass coal scuttle – classic helmet-shaped model with wooden handles The warm sheen of brass, dark wooden handles and a striking silhouette: this coal scuttle instantly sets the mood by the fireplace. A characterful utilitarian object that also shines as a decorative piece. The scuttle has a rounded body on a circular, raised foot. The opening slopes high on one side, forming the distinctive helmet-like shape. The irregular, hammered surface catches the light and accentuates the well-worn appearance of the metal. A movable carrying handle and a second, fixed grip are fitted with dark-coloured, turned wooden handles. The visible copper-coloured rivets form a nice detail on the mounting plates. Background In English, this type is known as a helmet-shaped coal scuttle. The model was used to store and replenish coal beside the hearth. Similar helmet-shaped brass coal scuttles are in museum collections, including a British example from around 1870 in the Museum of the Home. The form continued to be produced later as well; the exact age and origin of this example have not been determined. A atmospheric addition to a classic or country interior, for example as a decorative holder for kindling next to the open fire.
