MERSEN (Anne-Marie). — Enquêtes. Love in Paris. Paris, V. de Valence, publisher, [circa 1955]. Quarto, paperback, with a color photograph on the cover. An issue of the journal *Enquêtes*, devoted to “Love in Paris,” published under the name Anne-Marie Mersen. A curious report on Parisian romantic customs and the city’s gallant life in the 1950s, lavishly illustrated with black-and-white photographs of nudes and female models. The various texts discuss, in particular, the capital’s neighborhoods and meeting places; one chapter is devoted to Saint-Lazare. Numerous full-page photographs, some credited to Belorgey and Serge de Sazo. Interesting advertisements from the publisher for various publications on curiosities and erotica: *Album de nus*, *Nus d’autrefois 1850–1900*, *The Crimes of Love by the Marquis de Sade*, *Eroticism in French Literature*, *Investigations into Women’s Sexual Lives*, etc. The last page bears the following information: V. de Valence, 3 rue d’Artois, Paris 8th arrondissement, manager-director De Valence, printed by S.N.I.L., Paris. This copy bears a censorship strip on the cover reading “INTERDIT AUX…,” with the handwritten number 28—an interesting detail for the history of the distribution of this erotic publication. Fair condition. Cover is scuffed, creased, and worn, with rounded corners; there is a significant tear where a label was removed from the back cover; small tears and a paper loss on an advertising insert at the end of the volume. The body of the book is nevertheless still in decent condition.
