Medieval Rare kidney dagger (bollock dagger) - Rare...

This is a rare kidney dagger (also known as klotendolk or ballock dagger), a medieval stabbing weapon from the 14th to the 16th century. Dimensions: 31.1 x 5.9 x 3.2 cm Weight: 185.73 g Condition: restored (see photos) - The wooden grip has been replaced and, together with all associated components, returned to its original state. This dagger was a bottom-find and was found complete; the grip was of such poor quality that it had to be replaced. The grip: Made of wood, with two characteristic ball-shaped swellings at the hand protection (quillons) that resemble kidneys or testicles. The blade: Usually narrow, sturdy and sharpened on one or both sides, designed to pierce through gaps in mail or armor. Use: This type of dagger was very popular in Northern Europe among civilians, craftsmen and soldiers as a daily-use and self-defense weapon. Shipping method: this lot will be shipped well-packaged via DHL or UPS using Catawiki's smart shipping
