MEDIEVAL BRONZE SAINT PETER

Ca. AD 1000 - 1200. A cast bronze figure of Saint Peter seated with the body facing forward and the head slightly turned. His mature face is framed by thick, curled hair and a full beard, with pronounced brows, a straight nose and deep-set eyes. He wears a long tunic beneath a mantle draped over the shoulders, with incised folds descending across the chest and gathering in broad horizontal pleats over the lap. His left hand is raised to his chest, holding a key. The sandalled feet are visible beneath the hem of the garment. Size: 90mm x 30mm; Weight: 85g Provenance: Private collection; Acquired in the mid 1980s - late 1990s From the family collection of Mr. S.A. Switzerland,thence by descent Private collection since the late 1990s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
