A beautiful pectoral cross featuring the Cross of Golgotha and a prayer. The condition is simply excellent. Primary period of use: 17th to early 18th century (also actively reproduced within Old Believer communities during the 18th and 19th centuries). This artifact is imbued with the spirit of history and profound sacred meaning. The obverse and reverse sides of the cross feature skillfully executed relief images of the Cross of Golgotha and lines of a prayer. Precise detailing makes the piece distinctive. The presence of the prayer text lends the cross special spiritual value and uniqueness. The noble dark metal is covered with a natural patina, which attests to the object's venerable age and imparts a distinctive antique charm. The cross bears the text of the protective Orthodox prayer to the Precious and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord (known by its opening words, "Let God arise"). Due to the small size of the cross, the prayer is inscribed in an abbreviated form (using abbreviations or shortened lines of the Church Slavonic text). The full text of this prayer is as follows: Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered; and let those who hate Him flee from before His face. As smoke vanishes, so let them vanish; as wax melts before the fire, so let the sinners perish from the presence of God, but let the righteous rejoice. And again: Rejoice, O most honorable and life-giving Cross of the Lord, driving away demons by the power of our Lord Jesus Christ who was crucified upon thee, who descended into hell and trampled down the power of the devil, and who bestowed upon us His precious Cross for the driving away of every adversary. O most honorable and life-giving Cross of the Lord! Help me, together with the Holy Lady Virgin Theotokos and all the saints, unto the ages. Amen. This powerful prayer is traditionally used by Christians as spiritual protection against evil, misfortune, and adverse circumstances. Condition: The item is in excellent condition. The surface is covered with a deep, smooth, authentic patina of a noble dark green color (patina of time), which reliably protects the metal and confirms its antiquity. The patina highlights all the relief details of the ornament. The eye is intact, without cracks or damage.
