MAYAN POLYCHROME CYLINDRICAL VESSEL

Late Classic period, ca. AD 600 - 900 > A Maya polychrome cylindrical vessel with a broad upper band of glyph-like motifs above a painted figural scene. Red, cream and dark pigments articulate the exterior. Maya cylinder vessels often combine courtly or mythological imagery with a dedicatory text around the rim. On some examples, that text names an owner and identifies the vessel as a cacao-drinking cup. > > Size: 145mm x 120mm; Weight: 420g > Provenance: Prince Collection, 1990s2014; Ex.
