MATCHED SET OF FOUR EDWARDIAN SILVER NOVELTY MENU CARD HOLDERS (GREY & CO)

Ca. early 20th century AD. > A group of four silver novelty menu card holders. Each circular holder is formed with a domed front enclosing a carefully arranged fishing fly. The four examples display different hand-tied flies composed of coloured feathers, fibres, and metal hooks. The silver frames are supported on three small curved feet, allowing the holders to stand upright as table accessories. Novelty menu card holders of this type were popular in the Edwardian period and were often used on dining tables to display place cards or menus. > > Size: 45-45mm x 38-40mm; Weight: 180g > Provenance: Prince Collection, 1990s-2014; ex Bloomsbury, Auction 35922, Angling Collection of George Miskin, 3 May 2012, lot 648. > >
