Marvin Saltzman (NC, b. 1931), Love Valley, North Carolina

Oil on canvas, 1967-1970, signed "M. Saltzman" at lower left, inscribed to verso, unframed. Stretcher size 67 1/4 x 48 in. Property of the artist Marvin Saltzman was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1931. He attended the University of Chicago and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago from 1954 to 1956, and received a B.F.A. and M.F.A. from the University of Southern California in 1959. He taught at multiple universities, including Eastern Oregon State College, the University of Wisconsin at Madison, the University of Southern California, and was a member of the faculty of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1967 to 1996, where he mentored hundreds of students, many of whom have gone on to have successful artistic careers. Paintings by Saltzman are in numerous prominent public collections including the Asheville Museum of Art, Ackland Art Museum, Greenville Museum of Art in North Carolina; the Library of Congress and National Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C.; Portland Art Museum, Maine; National Library of Australia; and many others. Electrical tape wrapped around outer edge of stretcher bars; some foxing to verso of canvas.
