Marten Toonder Studio's (Jan van Haasteren) - 1 Original...

Original drawings from Marten Toonder Studio's have always been very rare, and that can and will never change. On December 1, 2010, the cultural heritage of Marten Toonder (all work that Marten Toonder himself created) was officially transferred by the heirs to the Leiden University Library Museum and since then thus owned by the Dutch State. In November 2018, the archive of the Marten Toonder Studio's was donated to the Literature Museum in The Hague and the Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam. See the last photo. The chance that original drawings come onto the market has therefore become very small. Jan van Haasteren started his career at advertising agency Grijseels, after which he obtained a job at Nijgh & Van Ditmar. Jan worked as an assistant to Loek van Delden on the comic Smidje Verholen, making his debut as a comic artist. His career as a comic artist only truly took off when Jan started working at the Marten Toonder Studio's. Jan made a switch to Geesink Studio, where he worked in the Geesink Artists department on Rick de Kikker. He also continued to work for Toonder Studio's as a freelancer. In 1967 he switched to freelance drawing and worked from home. Jan contributed to strips such as Kappie and Tom Poes. He also produced many strips for Donald Duck, such as the Evil Wolf, Donald Duck, Ketelbinkie and Hiawatha. His own work also came more to the fore during that time. Jan collaborated with many people and drew many strips and advertising posters. His work is extensively described in the book "Jan van Haasteren: from comic artist to puzzle phenomenon". In 2006 Jan was awarded the 'Bulletje en Boonestaak Schaal' by Het Stripschap and in 2013 he was knighted in the Order of Orange-Nassau. For the comic magazines Sjors and Eppo, Jan brought Tinus Trotyl to life. Tinus Trotyl has a morbid love of explosions; one of his characteristic statements is: 'No words, but bangs.' The strip is considered one of the first Dutch family comics. The strip led to Jan drawing posters, which eventually led to the world-famous Jan van Haasteren jigsaw puzzles. Auction lot information; This lot contains a beautiful original rough sheet from Marten Toonder Studio's Panda from 1970. The rough sheet is fully developed and ready to be inked. It concerns strip 51 from the 108th Panda story; Panda and the master filmer, which was drawn by Jan van Haasteren, then working for Marten Toonder Studio's. It shows in a pure way the craftsmanship of artist Jan van Haasteren. This is very rare material of which almost nothing has been preserved and thus nothing is in circulation. During a fire in the seventies at the Toonder Studio’s, a lot of original material was lost! This is therefore very unique material. Before this beautiful strip is offered, it has been kept in a private collection for more than 45 years. A unique chance for the connoisseur. Original work by Jan van Haasteren is rare and seldom offered. See also the photos that form part of the description and give a good impression of the quality of the offering. The drawing will be packed very securely and sent by registered mail to the new owner.
