Mario Ros (XX) - Ensoñación con copa y flores

This elegant composition by Mario Ros, executed in oil on canvas mounted on panel, features a woman seated in an intimate and refined setting, delicately holding a cup to which she directs her gaze. The scene conveys a sense of calm and contemplation, yet at the same time possesses a remarkable chromatic richness, especially visible in the dress, the floral headpiece, and the still life ensemble that decorates the background. The woman’s face, treated with a soft and modulated brushstroke, stands out for the delicacy of the flesh tones, built through a succession of pinks, ochres, oranges, and violets. The serene expression and lowered gaze contribute to a certain contemplative dimension, preventing the portrait from being merely a decorative representation. Special prominence is given to the dress, resolved through an extraordinary combination of blues, mauves, violets, whites, and golden highlights. The brushwork becomes freer and more material-impressionistic here, allowing the folds to emerge through overlapping strokes rather than a drawing that is too sharply delineated. This technique provides movement to the fabric and makes the light seem to travel across its surface. The background also plays an essential role. On a shelf sit several glass vessels and floral arrangements, whose luminous greens and yellows contrast with the purplish and bluish tones of the room. The flowers are built up with small, independent brushstrokes, almost like flashes, that bring freshness and spatial depth. The execution features a loose, expressive, and slightly impasto brushstroke, a characteristic that also appears in other works attributed to Mario Ros, where the delicate treatment of the faces is combined with backgrounds and fabrics rendered with greater freedom of paint handling. In cataloged works by this artist, the use of oil on canvas and a brushwork technique with light-relief is also documented. A work of great decorative appeal and sensitivity, in which Mario Ros combines portraiture, feminine elegance, still life, and an intimate atmosphere in a luminous composition with a strong pictorial character. A photo accompanies it where the painting is framed in mock-up. The work will be shipped UNFRAMED.
