• Picasso depicts Marie-Thérèse Walter in the unusual role of a female bullfighter • The print forms part of the Suite Vollard, comprising 100 etchings • The edition comprises only 15 numbered copies In this etching from 1934, Pablo Picasso combines two themes that significantly characterised his artistic output during those years: the depiction of his then lover and muse, Marie-Thérèse Walter, and his intense preoccupation with bullfighting. By casting Marie-Thérèse in the role of a female bullfighter, he links this personal motif with a visual world characterised by passion, tension and the interplay between strength and vulnerability. Created on 20 June 1934, this print forms part of the Suite Vollard, a series of 100 prints in which Picasso explores his artistic and personal themes in a variety of ways. | 1881 Málaga - Mougins bei Cannes 1973 | Moderne Kunst | Druckgrafik | Nummer: 26x2392 | Provenance: Kornfeld, Bern 18.6.2010, Los 101; Privatbesitz, USA.
