Marcel Mendez - Fragmented Face #167 -XL- ( No reserve )

Fragmented Face #167 Series: The 1000 Faces | Original work | 2026 Description of the work In this painting I present a portrait that explores identity, mystery, and human expression through geometry and color. The figure, depicted with a wide-brimmed hat and attire of vertical lines, conveys a serene and enigmatic personality. The face appears divided into two chromatic planes that coexist in balance, while a black shape crosses one of the eyes, introducing an element of mystery and a more abstract interpretation of the gaze. The composition combines deep blues, burgundy tones, soft pink, warm yellow, and delicate violets. The contrasts between warm and cool colors create a visual harmony that adds depth and personality to the work. The vertical lines of the background and the clothing introduce rhythm and movement, contrasting with the curved shapes of the face and the hat. I am especially interested in how small elements can transform the expression of a face. A glance, a line, or an unexpected form can suggest different emotions and stories for each viewer. I seek for the painting to maintain a balance between the simplicity of the shapes and the complexity of what it can convey. Style and technique The work is made in acrylic on canvas, within a contemporary neocubist language, with influences from geometric art and the hard-edge style. I use flat color surfaces, defined black outlines, and precise lines to build a clean and balanced composition. The combination of geometric shapes, curves, and linear patterns adds dynamism to the figure without losing its minimalist character. Art series: The 1000 Faces This painting belongs to my artistic project The 1000 Faces, a personal series of 1000 original, unique, and individually numbered portraits. Through this project I explore the infinite possibilities of representing the human face through fragmentation, geometry, color, and simplification of forms. Each painting represents a different identity, an emotion, or an imagined story. My intent is to create a universe of faces in which every work has its own personality, maintaining a recognizable artistic language and in constant evolution. Fragmented Face #167 is part of this artistic inquiry, where I continue to explore new combinations of shapes, colors, and symbolic elements.
