Died in Bamako in April 2016. From Malick Sidibé's work we first know his documentary photographs, taken at house parties organized by young people fond of music and freedom as the country prepared for independence. In 1962, he opens the “Studio Malick” in Bamako. Studio portraits will constitute the major part of his work. People come from all over to have their portraits taken by the eye of Bamako… Noted at the first Bamako Photography Encounters, he was exhibited at the Fondation Cartier in Paris, then in major galleries and museums around the world.
