Maja Berezowska (1911-1978) - Elegant Belle Époque scene with a cyclist on a high-wheeled bicycle - 1963 Description: Beautiful, original mixed-media drawing by the renowned Polish artist Maja Berezowska. This work from 1963 is executed in her highly recognizable, hand-colored style and combines decisive ink lines with refined, pastel-colored watercolor accents on paper. The piece presents a humorous and satirical nod to the late 19th century (Belle Époque / Fin de siècle). We see elegantly dressed spectators in period clothing, complete with crinolines and a top hat, amusedly watching a cyclist on a classic high-wheeled bicycle (penny-farthing). Berezowska's distinctive focus on female elegance, flirtation, and mild social satire is beautifully conveyed in this tableau. • Artist: Maja Berezowska (1911-1978) • Technique: Ink and watercolor on paper • Dating: 1963 (hand-signed and dated lower right: majaberezowska 63) Includes list: Size: width 42.5 cm, height 37.5 cm.
