Mahakala of the Thousand Arms, Tibetan ritual painting, 20th century

Descriptio Polychrome pigments on a textile support. A Thangka depicting Mahakala of the Thousand Arms, the wrathful deity and protector of dharma, dominates the composition with a visually striking presence. The central figure is surrounded by stylized flames, a symbol of energy and transformation, standing out against a background saturated with vibrant colors, predominantly reds, deep blues, and golds. The multiple arms unfurl in a dynamic, circular motion, bearing ritual attributes and symbolic gestures. Above, a group of figures wearing yellow caps occupies the celestial space, establishing a spiritual hierarchy that reinforces the doctrinal meaning of the scene. The work fully embodies the Tibetan pictorial tradition, conceived as a medium for meditation and religious instruction. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipment: no import duties apply within the EU. Export permit from the country of origin may be required.
