Magnificent Art Déco Brooch with 4.20 ct Diamonds in Platinum, circa 1930

A blossom, centered by a single large brilliant-cut diamond, shines amidst stylized branches and leaves. The composition is framed by a finely curved oval, which in turn is adorned with fan-shaped ornaments in all four directions. No coloured gemstones, no enamel are needed - the fascination of the piece arises solely from the play of light, which is partly swallowed by openwork details, partly reflected by the sheer countless diamonds and millegrains. White jewels like this brooch were among the indispensable pieces of evening jewelry in the first decades of the 20th century. In electric light, they could unfold their full brilliance. First silver, then platinum and white gold provided glittering highlights on evening gowns. Brilliant-cut diamonds were increasingly optimized in terms of their light refraction, adding their sparkle to salons, ballrooms and opera foyers. The brooch was created in the years around 1930 in what was then Czechoslovakia, as evidenced by the hallmarks on the piece. In addition to its design, the details of its manufacture also clearly speak the language of that time. On the one hand, the large diamonds are formed in the transitional cut, which, according to its name, stands between the old cut of the years around 1900 and our present full cut. The brooch is made of white gold with a platinum face, which is even whiter and more radiant than white gold. This trick is also found only in Art Deco jewels. The brooch comes with an independent appraisal of the materials. It is excellently preserved and a jewel that can delight generations to come with its timeless beauty and outstanding quality.
