“Madonna di Loreto – Regina e Madre” is an artwork of intense spirituality dedicated to the Madonna di Loreto, here represented according to refined Marian iconography, with the Child Jesus in her arms, both crowned and placed within a solemn sacred architecture. The figure of the Virgin dominates the center of the composition with an austere, maternal and deeply contemplative presence. The dark face, rendered with great intensity, immediately recalls the iconographic tradition of the Black Madonna of Loreto, while the wide mantle richly decorated envelops the figure with elegance and solemnity. The crown atop her head symbolically underlines the royalty of Mary, presented as Queen and Mother, custodian and intercessor. On the Virgin’s arm is depicted the Child Jesus, also crowned. With one hand he makes a blessing gesture, while with the other he holds the globe topped by the cross, symbol of Christ’s sovereignty over the world and of his salvific mission. The Child’s position, gathered yet at the same time solemn, reinforces the devotional character of the scene and creates an intense visual dialogue with the maternal figure. Particularly evocative are the inscriptions placed on the side columns. On the left appears the reference “Santa Maria di Loreto,” while on the opposite side is the Latin invocation “Mater Dei, ora pro nobis,” “Mother of God, pray for us.” These elements make the subject immediately recognizable and transform the composition into a true image of prayer and Marian devotion. The architecture that frames the figures contributes to giving the scene a monumental character. Arches, columns and ornamental motifs delimit the space like a small visual shrine, while the lily symbols and floral decorations recall purity, royalty and Christian tradition. Each element seems designed to accompany the gaze toward Mary and the Child, the spiritual center of the entire work. The work impresses with the extraordinary richness of the line and with a rendering akin to an ancient devotional engraving. The strong contrast between the darker faces, the luminous garments and the deep background heightens the solemnity of the composition, while the meticulous description of the crowns, the draperies and the architectural elements gives the image an elegant and timeless presence. “Madonna di Loreto – Regina e Madre” is not merely a decoration, but a true devotional image, intended to accompany prayer, contemplation and reverie.
