MADONNA MIT KIND AUF ROKOKO-SOCKEL

Süddeutsch oder Österreich, Ende 18. Jahrhundert. Holz, vollrund geschnitzt. Die Madonna ist in einer leicht kontrapostischen Haltung auf einer Wolkenbank stehend dargestellt. Sie trägt ein rotes Untergewand und einen weiten, blau gefassten Mantel, der in tiefem Schüssel- und Röhrenfaltenwurf über ihre Hüfte und den linken Arm drapiert ist. Auf ihrem linken Arm hält sie das beinahe nackte Jesuskind, das den Betrachter segnend anblickt. Ihr Blick ist andächtig in die Ferne gerichtet, das Haupt wird von einem dunklen Schleier gerahmt. Die Figur ruht auf einem markanten, großen Rocaille-Sockel, dieser ist durch dynamische C-Bögen, durchbrochene Schnitzereien und Voluten geprägt, was der strengeren vertikalen Ausrichtung der Figur eine spielerische Leichtigkeit verleiht. H: ca. 87 cm. Die polychrome Fassung ist ergänzt, Finger der Madonna sowie Teile der kindlichen Extremitäten bestoßen oder alt restauriert. Der Sockel zeigt altersbedingte Trockenrisse. | Madonna and Child on a Rococo Base Southern Germany or Austria, late 18th century. Carved wood in the round, polychrome finish. The Madonna is depicted standing on a cloud base in a gentle contrapposto pose. She wears a red undergarment and a wide, blue-painted mantle, which falls in deep bowl- and tube-shaped folds across her hips and left arm. On her left arm, she holds the almost nude Christ Child, who looks toward the viewer with a gesture of blessing. Her gaze is devoutly directed into the distance, and her head is framed by a dark veil. The figure stands on a striking Rocaille base, characterized by dynamic C-scrolls, openwork carving, and volutes, lending a sense of playful lightness to the otherwise vertically oriented figure. Height: approx. 87 cm. Condition: The polychrome surface has been partly restored. The Madonna’s fingers and parts of the Child’s limbs show damage or old restorations.
