Description Elegant oil on canvas by Luis García Oliver in 1957, according to the autographic inscription located in the upper right corner. The composition depicts an exuberant bouquet of flowers arranged in a vase with coppery reflections, placed on a dark surface. The artist develops a classical still life composition, but resolved with a modern execution, rich in texture and with a special prominence of brushwork. The flowers occupy much of the pictorial surface and are represented using intense reds, carmines, pinks, violets, warm yellows and whites, creating a strong contrast with the gray-green background. Two large red flowers placed next to the vase deliberately break the vertical structure of the bouquet and visually extend the composition toward the lower right area. 3. Stylistic and compositional analysis The work participates in the renewal of floral still life developed during the first half and middle of the 20th century. Although it maintains a traditional structure — central vase, neutral background and frontal arrangement — the handling of the painting departs from academic naturalism. The flowers are built with visible, short brushstrokes loaded with body. The petals are defined through accumulations of pigment that create a richly tactile surface. The composition presents an interesting pyramidal structure. The main mass of the bouquet occupies the center and the upper half of the canvas, while the vase acts as a vertical axis. Flowers placed outside the container introduce a descending diagonal that balances the whole. The background, deliberately simplified, avoids any anecdotal element and concentrates all attention on the volume and color of the bouquet. 4. Color, light and materiality One of the main attractions of the work is its chromatic intensity. Dominant reds and carmines are accompanied by pinks, violets, warm yellows, creamy whites and small green accents. In the face of this chromatic richness, García Oliver uses a background built from gray-green tones and neutral hues that allow the flowers to stand out with particular intensity. Also noteworthy is the treatment of the vase. Through ochres, copper tones, deep browns and small yellow reflections, the artist manages to suggest a metallic or ceramic surface of glossy character without resorting to overly meticulous description. The brushstroke is visible on almost the entire surface and gains particular thickness in the petals, where impasto directly contributes to building volume. 5. Aesthetic dimension The painting combines the tradition of floral still life with a modern sensibility based mainly on color and material. Rather than reproducing each flower botanically with precision, the artist seeks to convey the visual impression of the whole: density, light, color and exuberance. The result is a decorative yet painterly solid composition, in which the energy of the reds contrasts with the serene atmosphere of the background. The work also retains a notable presence thanks to its format, reaching 92 x 78 cm with its frame. 6. Signature, inscription and dating The work appears clearly signed in the upper right corner: “Luis García Oliver” Below the signature one can read a second inscription that seems to indicate: “Pineda, 1957” The date allows locating precisely the execution of the painting in the latter half of the 1950s. The work constitutes an interesting example of mid-20th-century Spanish floral painting, characterized by the progressive liberation of the brushwork and by a growing attention to chromatic and material values. 7. Shipping and conditions The work is delivered with the frame shown in the photographs. Shipments are carried out by a professional specialized company, using a custom-made box and foam protections to ensure maximum safety during transport. International shipping is available. Large-format shipments and those outside the European Union may incur additional packaging, transport, customs, or handling costs, which will be borne by the buyer. The frame is offered as a gift and is not an essential part of the artwork’s auction value, so it will not be subject to claims.
