Luis Buñuel / Dali - L'Age d'or - 1930

Luis Buñuel / Dali - L'Age d'or - 1930

Original film review-program for screenings at Studio 28 in 1930, octavo, 220 x 135, stapled and sewn. This program is divided into two back-to-back parts. The more substantial part, 38 pages, is devoted to Buñuel's film. It opens with a short text by Dali: “My general idea in writing with Buñuel the screenplay of The Tree of Oranges [note: actual title in French refers to L'Age d'Or, keep as The Golden Age] was to present the straight and pure line of the ‘conduct’ of a being who pursues love through the ignoble humanitarian, patriotic and other miserable mechanisms of reality.” The screenplay, subtitles, dialogue follow, a long text about the film ending with one titled Social Aspect – Subversive Elements, signed by the leading members of the surrealist current at the time, the “Catalogue of works exhibited at Studio 28 for the first representation,” a catalog of surrealist books for sale at Corti bookstore, and 30 black-and-white photographs of the film. These texts are illustrated with compositions by Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, Jean Arp, Yves Tanguy, Man Ray, and Joan Miró, reproduced in black and white in the text.
