Luigi Tagliani (c.1800-?) - Paesaggio

Suggestive landscape by Luigi Tagliani, depicting a traveler accompanied by a pack animal along a path immersed in a scenographic nature, among trees, rocks and watercourses. The composition develops around the two central figures, framed by tall trees and autumn-toned vegetation. On the right, a waterfall descends among the rocks and feeds the foreground watercourse; small rustic buildings, a wooden elevated structure, and a boat complete the scene, giving it a narrative character. The palette alternates greens and blues with warm ochre and brown accents. The cloudy sky and the contrasts between illuminated areas and shadows create an intense and evocative atmosphere, while the brushstrokes highlight the movement of the water and the details of the vegetation. Signature at the bottom right, accompanied by an additional inscription underneath. On the back of the canvas there is a handwritten note with the artist’s name and the indication “Paesaggio” (Landscape). The painting is presented in a wide black frame with gilded profiles, included in the sale. The frame shows signs of wear, abrasions, and small finish losses. Luigi Tagliani (Capolago, c. 1800) Swiss painter active in Italy in the first half of the 19th century. He trained at the Brera Academy in Milan, where he won drawing prizes (1814, 1816), and continued his studies at the Academy of Florence. He painted genre scenes, sacred and historical subjects, in an academic style with a classicist imprint. In 1820 he won the first prize at the competition of the Ducal Academy of Fine Arts of Parma with the work “Departure of Ovid banished by Augustus.” His production is documented in Switzerland and in private collections; he is listed in major art market databases.
