Lucía Lauren (LILI) is a Cuban artist with essentially self-taught fine arts training, graduated in Social Communication from the University of Havana. Her relationship with the image began long before she dedicated herself professionally to painting. Photography constituted her first creative territory: through it she developed a special sensitivity toward composition, visual balance, gesture, and the representation of the human figure. Subsequently she spent several years exploring the world of tattooing, a decisive stage for understanding the importance that line, silhouette, simplification of forms, and graphic clarity acquire in her current painting. Finally she found in the plastic arts a much broader space for expression. Painting allowed her to unite those previous experiences and transform them into an intimate and recognizable universe, built mainly through acrylic on canvas. Lucía Lauren's work revolves especially around women, nature, flowers and animals, with a recurring presence of the cat as a silent companion to her protagonists. They are scenes that rarely seek to narrate extraordinary events. On the contrary, the artist seems interested in small moments of calm: a woman holding her cat, a figure surrounded by flowers, a glass of wine, an imagined garden, or simply a moment of contemplation. Her painting starts from a marked visual synthesis. Lucía eliminates much of the secondary information to preserve only what she deems essential. Serene faces, large areas of color, defined contours, and flat forms build immediately legible images, yet rich in sensitivity. In her language we find echoes of contemporary illustration and naïve painting, along with decorative references close to Art Deco and Art Nouveau. Yet these elements appear reinterpretated from a personal sensitivity—warmer, more everyday, and feminine. One of the most interesting aspects of her work is the use of color. Powder pinks, terracottas, ochres, Mustards and cream tones coexist with deep blacks, blue-green greens, intense reds, and very clean whites. In some compositions the palette is delicate and almost domestic; in others, the chromatic contrast acquires a clearly graphic intensity. The woman occupies the center of almost her entire pictorial universe. She is not represented as a heroic or distant figure, but from a calm, elegant, introspective femininity. They are figures with serene gazes, slow poses and restrained gestures. There is glamour, but it is intimate and quiet glamour. Cats play a particularly interesting role. More than mere decorative elements, they act as symbols of companionship, independence, tenderness, and emotional refuge. In works where woman and animal embrace, the curves of the human body and the shapes of the cat nearly fuse, turning the composition into a representation of affection. Flowers and vegetation fulfill a similar function. They surround the protagonists, appear on their dresses, or integrate into the backgrounds to the point of sometimes erasing the boundary between figure and nature. In this way, woman, nature, and the animal world end up forming a single sensitivity. In works such as the figure embracing the cat on a red background, Lucía radically reduces the palette to construct the image through the contrast between black, white, and red. The stripes of the dress cease to be only a print and become the main compositional resource: they surround both characters and focus the scene on the act of the embrace. The result conveys protection, intimacy, and silence. In other pieces, such as the woman seated beside the cat and the glass of wine, the artist develops a composition closer to contemporary design. The terracotta of the dress dialogues with soft pinks, beiges, and blue-greens, creating a sophisticated image without feeling cold. The protagonist performs no specific action; she simply exists within her space. Precisely this absence of drama constitutes a large part of the charm of the work. Thus Lucía Lauren develops a painting that seems simple but is carefully constructed. Her language does not depend on ostentatious technical virtuosity, but on the ability to reduce a scene until finding its essential emotion. Her universe is feminine, botanical, domestic, and affective. It features everyday beauty, the relationship with animals, care, contemplation, and nature as a refuge. Her paintings possess a particularly attractive quality: they can seem decorative at first glance, but behind that beauty there is a constant pursuit of harmony, sensitivity, and serenity. In a contemporary landscape where many images seek to attract attention through excess, Lucía Lauren takes the opposite path: she simplifies. And precisely in that simplicity lies a large part of the personality of her work. Artwork by artist Lucía Laurent executed in the technique Acrylic on high-quality professional canvas. The composition stands out for a bold contrast between the delicacy of the faces, characterized by pale skin tones and serious blue-eyed gazes, and the visual dynamism of the clothing and the background. The foreground figure wears an orange garment with a light-dotted pattern that harmoniously contrasts with the wide-brimmed black hat, while the second figure wears clothing wrapped in a complex zigzag geometric pattern in yellows, blacks, and whites. Large floral elements and foliage in crimson red and deep green frame the scene, imparting an organic richness that balances the geometric lines of the clothing, complemented by a clean application of painting with well-defined contours that emphasize the graphic, sophisticated, and avant-garde character of the piece.
