Louise Michel - Lettre autographe signée pour dénoncer le...

Very beautiful letter from Louise Michel, with the restrained and determined character that marks her in her defense. "Friends warn me through a Belgian newspaper and accuse me of my personal affairs in a way that forces me to reply, since it is not really about me at all. I am trying to make this reply as tactful as possible. I will therefore say only this: for the past two years, going to three or four meetings every day, I have not been able to work sufficiently; friends have felt obliged to help me — especially those mentioned in the article in question [Clemenceau, Rochefort?] — and who had already taken care of my mother during my prison sentence, I ADD NOTHING." (signed) LOUISE MICHEL June 1, 1889 (The Belgian newspaper that particularly denigrated Louise Michel during the centennial of the French Revolution is L’Indépendance belge.)
