History : The luxury version of this floor lamp was presented to the President of the French Republic, Mr. Raymond Poincaré, by his fellow students at the Lycée de Bar-le-Duc. It was presented under the name of Poincaré in Majorelle's catalog, but also featured in the "Algues" desk set. A similar model is in the collections of the Musée de l'École de Nancy, displayed in Louis Majorelle's bedroom with a Daum basin (inv. AD 369). The example of the Poincaré floor lamp in our auction is the only one known on the market in such a complete and rich version, with its original alabaster with pinkish reflections, the applied gilded bronze Thuja branches and the interior system consisting of this brass flower bud holding the electrical system. It was acquired from Marc Lamouric in 1980 with the traditional oral provenance of having belonged to Raymond Poincaré, but we have been unable to verify this provenance.
