Lothar Klute (1946–2023) - Dish - Patinated bronze - signed 'K 03' – 2003

For sale is an exceptional, solidly crafted bronze bowl by the German artist and designer Lothar Klute (1946–2023). The bowl is characterized by its organic, deliberately irregular form and its strong materialPresence. The dark patinated surface stands in a striking contrast to the warm bronze-colored rim. It is precisely this combination of heavy metal, craft-like surface, and free, sculptural design that gives the object its special character. On the underside there is the clearly recognizable marking “K 03”. Lothar Klute. In documented works clearly attributed to Lothar Klute there are comparable markings consisting of a K or LK in connection with the year. For example, works with “K 98”, “K04” and “LK 90” are documented. Dorotheum, for instance, lists bronze objects designed and executed by Klute under the designation “K 98”, while other demonstrably Klute-originated works are labeled “K04” or “LK 90”. Lothar Klute belongs to the independent German artists and designers whose work crosses the boundary between sculpture, craftsmanship, and functional design. He became especially known for his bronze works and for the combination of bronze with freely formed or cast glass. His studio was located in Waldemai in Schmallenberg. Klute’s works are today traded by established international and German auction houses. Documented Klute objects achieved, depending on size and execution, bids or sale prices ranging from several hundred to several thousand euros. A particularly characteristic feature of his oeuvre is the strong emphasis on material and craftsmanship. Documented Klute works in bronze are expressly described by auction houses as forged or cast bronze. The present bowl also conveys, through its strong surface, its irregular contour, and its substantial weight, a highly sculptural impression. With a weight of approx. 2,074 g the bowl is notably massive for its size. The surface has a beautiful, age-appropriate patina and light traces corresponding to age and use. These have been deliberately not removed and emphasize the object’s grown character. Weight: approx. 2,074 g Material: Bronze Marking: “K 03” on the underside Attribution: Lothar Klute (1946–2023) Dating: presumably 2003 Origin: Germany Condition: good, age-appropriate condition with natural patina Please note the numerous close-up shots. They show the form, surface, patina, marking, and the actual condition of the bowl and are part of the object description. Thank you for your attention And happy bidding Kind regards Daniel Westerwalbesloh
