Pair of Limoges biscuit porcelain busts, after Jean-Antoine Houdon, depicting the Brongniard children, Louise and Alexandre. The portraits are very finely executed and designed with contrast. They turn their heads in opposite directions. Alexandre is dressed while Louise is nude. The boy’s liveliness is illustrated by his unruly hair, the open jacket over his chest, the mischievous gaze, and the taut modeling of the face. Louise is more composed: she still has the plumpness of early childhood and her hair is carefully gathered into a bun. Houdon first presented these works in terracotta in 1777, which have since enjoyed great popularity. These biscuit busts made in Limoges rest on a base in furnace blue, typical of Limogeaud work from the 60s-70s, stamped "Limoges France". The two busts are in perfect condition. The boy’s statuette is slightly smaller.
