The oil painting offered for sale is a typical work of the artist. His style is characterized by a loose, pointillist or impressionistic brushstroke with a strong sense of light, atmosphere and seasons. Just like his regional contemporary Emile Claus, Leon van Nueten found his greatest inspiration along the banks of the Leie. Van Nueten regularly ventured from nearby Ghent to this picturesque river landscape to capture the typical Flemish rural life. This painting, with the reflections of the village houses in the calm water, exudes exactly the same atmosphere as Claus's world-famous Leie views.
