LEIPPERT, JÜRGEN (1944) "Apache" 1987/1988.

Öl auf Leinwand. Ca. 100 x 100 cm. Rahmen, HxB: 107 x 107 cm. | LEIPPERT, JÜRGEN (1944) “Apache” 1987/1988 Oil on canvas. Approx. 100 × 100 cm. Framed, H × W: 107 × 107 cm. Signed in blue on the upper right of the canvas: “Leippert.” Signed and dated in black on the reverse: “Leippert 88.” The stretcher also bears a typographic label identifying the work, giving the date and its original price: “‘Apache’ 1987 / Oil/Canvas / DM 7,000.” With expressive brushwork and dynamic, tension-filled use of color, Jürgen Leippert captures an enigmatic, narrative scene in Apache. The motif—a juxtaposition of two highly stylized figures against a nocturnal, presumably urban background—is characterized by the stark contrast between cool blue and green tones and selectively applied, luminous red accents. On the left, the dominant feature is the strongly characterized, mask-like profile of a man with a prominently defined lip area, while in the foreground a blonde woman in an evening dress fixes the viewer with a direct gaze. The title Apache presumably refers to the eponymous, passionate Parisian dance associated with the milieu of the turn of the century, reinforcing the underlying drama and shimmering eroticism of the composition. The work is an outstanding example of Leippert’s figurative period of the late 1980s, during which he transformed the atmosphere of urban life into a masterful, almost theatrical form of painting. Good original condition. The layers of paint retain a high degree of luminosity. Minimal age-related abrasion along the edges from framing. The silver-colored shadow-gap frame is in very good condition with minor signs of wear.
