Art Deco vase from Le Verre Français by Charles Schneider. Impressive bottle-shaped vase with the 'Cerises' decoration in pink marbled powdered glass, doubled with an etched orange-violet decoration in the shape of cherries from Verreries Schneider of Épinay-sur-Seine, France. This early vase bears the 'berlingot' mark at the bottom. The decoration is dated around 1918-1921 and is depicted on a similar (smaller) model on page 93 of the book 'Charles Schneider Le Verre Français – Charder – Schneider' by Marie-Christine Joulin and Gerold Maier, 2004. This early vase is exceptionally tall at 43 cm (widest diameter about 14 cm) and is in excellent condition with minimal signs of use. Photos are part of the description. It will be carefully packed, insured, and shipped to your home with a tracking code. We do not ship outside the EU or to (non-)countries with a special customs status. Ernest and Charles Schneider grew up in Nancy. In 1903 Ernest Schneider was taken on by the commercial management of the factory at Daum Frères. He had his younger brother Charles, trained in sculpture at the School of Fine Arts in Nancy and later in Paris, present proposals for vases and glass pastes. This collaboration lasted until 1911. They founded their own company in 1913, Verreries Schneider, in Épinay-sur-Seine. The company’s success was confirmed after the end of hostilities in 1918. By 1925 it employed as many as five hundred people and sold its creations worldwide. After 1918, however, Charles Schneider quickly became the sole maker of the pieces. Gradually he left Art Nouveau and developed a very personal genre, characterized by bright, bold, contrasting colors and naturalistic and stylized motifs, which perfectly symbolized the Art Deco style of the interwar period. The glass market, however, was severely hit by the Great Depression of 1929 and led in 1938 to the bankruptcy of the Schneider brothers' company.
