Le Creuset - Raymond Loewy - Casserole dish - 4.5 L - source

Superb and rare Le Creuset “Coquelle” Dutch oven, designed by the famous industrial designer Raymond Loewy in the late 1950s. This imposing 4.5-liter version retains the characteristic lines of the Coquelle: soft and aerodynamic shapes, enveloping lid, integrated handles and an elegant central black bakelite handle. Its vintage yellow color gives it a particularly striking and emblematic presence of 1950s French design. Made in enameled cast iron, this Dutch oven was intended for everyday use both on the stove and in the oven. It is today a sought-after piece both for its culinary qualities and for its interest in the history of French industrial design and post-war domestic furniture. Specifications Brand: Le Creuset Designer: Raymond Loewy Model: Coquelle 4,5 Era: 1950s Origin: France Material: enameled cast iron Color: vintage yellow Interior: blue/gray enamel Handle: black bakelite Capacity: about 4.5 liters Dimensions: Weight: about 6 kg Length: 35.5 cm Width: 25 cm Height without lid: 11.2 cm Height with lid: 16 cm Markings The underside of the Dutch oven bears the inscriptions “MADE IN FRANCE” and “4.5”. The lid also bears the “4.5” marking, corresponding to the model’s capacity. Condition Good vintage condition overall, consistent with the piece’s age and use. The exterior shows some signs of wear and aging, as well as a few very small enamel chips on the rim of the pot and on the edge of the lid. These remain discreet and do not alter the overall appearance of this antique piece. The interior presents a bluish enamel with several signs and stains of use, visible in the photographs. It does not show any cracks, and the Dutch oven remains fully functional for cooking. The black bakelite handle is present and in good condition. The photographs are part of the description and allow precise assessment of the condition. Raymond Loewy and Le Creuset From the late 1950s, Le Creuset collaborated with Raymond Loewy, one of the giants of 20th-century industrial design. The Franco-American designer brings to the traditional enameled cast iron new shapes, more modern and aerodynamic. The Coquelle, created from 1958, became one of the most emblematic achievements of this collaboration. It perfectly illustrates the meeting of functionality, industrial innovation and modern aesthetics. Today, the old Coquelle pieces by Raymond Loewy are particularly appreciated by Le Creuset vintage collectors, Mid-Century design enthusiasts, and French industrial design collectors. A beautiful historic piece of 4.5 liters, with its vintage character, its original markings and a patina bearing its history, which could return to culinary use or be integrated into a design collection. Very protective and careful shipping, Best regards,
