Lauriers du Sport Awards Ceremony

A rare crystal trophy awarded at the first Lauriers du Sport ceremony, held in Laval in 1993. The Lauriers d’Or programme was established that same year by the Laval Sports Commission to recognise the performances and efforts of Laval athletes to surpass their personal bests during the provincial finals of the Jeux du Québec. The trophy, measuring 35 × 21 × 21 cm, is shaped like a whale’s tail – a form that references both the presence of cetaceans in Quebec’s waters and the world of water sports. It is presented in its substantial original case (60 × 60 × 60 cm), lined with blue marbled paper featuring white and red veining. The centre of the lid is adorned with the manufacturer’s mark and the inscription ‘Saint Louis France 1586’ in pink lettering.
