LATE 19TH CENTURY WOODEN BARBER SHOP POLE TRADE SIGN Circa 1880–1910, American, large turned and painted wooden barber shop trade sign of traditional pole form, featuring a tapered central shaft decorated with spiraling red, blue and cream bands and hand-painted ornamental detailing, terminating in boldly turned architectural elements with contrasting painted and gilt decoration. A substantial and visually appealing example of early barberiana retaining a well-aged painted surface and strong period character. CONDITION: Retains substantial old painted surface with scattered fading, crazing, abrasions and losses from age and use. Pronounced vertical age separation through the wooden shaft and upper turned elements, with additional checking and minor surface losses throughout. Overall presents with attractive honest wear.
